Magnolia's Grace
"A surreal sensory installation, creating a new mindful experience."
Magnolia’s Grace is an installation that combines various sensory elements, in order to create a mindful atmosphere. The installation contains porcelain shapes that are inspired by the magnolia tree, its blooming flowers, broken branches and the symmetrical leaves.
These porcelain shapes are connected to a sound detector, a temperature measurer and a distance detector. Based on actions within the environment or the actions of visitors, the sensors can respond and various LED lights will turn on, shining through the translucent porcelain. Enhancing a surreal experience, where nature, urban and technology work together.

My aim has been to intervene my form language with nature, to arouse more interest in the natural processes, through the creation of the abstracted porcelain shapes. Magnolia’s Grace invites the user to become more aware of living in the now, by admiring the magical feeling that the installation evokes.
In this picture you can see the porcelain shapes, inspired by the Magnolia tree. Later on connected to three Arduino controlled sensors, directing LED lights that shine through the translucent material.
